“Miss Audrey” and “Mr. Ross” ran the Hamm Store. Miss Audrey outlived her husband and her three children. When she was quite elderly, she still went to the store to visit with friends and sell groceries. When she was around 90, she climbed out the upstairs window and stood on her porch roof to wash the upstairs windows! She was spry, happy, and kind to everyone.
When I was about 5 and 6 years old I lived in the house to the right of the store. They dumped bottle caps on the right side of the store and I would dig through them for free Pop-Colas. You had to dig out the cork liner to see if it was free one or not. A lot were.
