The school was built on the Sam Parnell farm, now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Jess and Latis Parnell Trull. People in the community who owned property donated lumber, loggers logged the logs to the sawmill, sawmill owners sawed the logs into lumber free of charge and people of the community donated their time and labor showing up with handsaws and hammers, and some brought supplies.
The school was built in 1936 and was not completed when school started in the fall.
Mrs Lucille Easly was the teacher for the first and second grades; Mrs. Theda Edwards who also taught at Middle Brush Creek School on Sandbar, was the teacher for third and fourth grade; Mr. Tom Kent Savage was the teacher for the fifth and sixth grade for a few weeks before he was moved to Linden and was replaced by Mrs. Gussie Goblet; and Mr. Homer Long was the teacher for the seventh and eighth and also the principal. Miss Theda Edwards and Mr. Homer Long were married January 12, 1937.
The 1936-1937 school years began with Lower Brush, Middle Brush Creek, Coon Creek and Chestnut Grove schools all consolidated at PARNELL SCHOOL.
