1819 Petition for new county now known as Perry

The following petition can be found on microfilm at the Tennessee State Library and Archives, 203 Seventh Ave., North, Nashville, TN 37243-0312.Transcriber’s Notes:
- Original Material in Poor Condition. Best Copy Available;
- Spelling is transcribed as was written in the original record;
- This is an interesting piece. From my analysis, the petition includes some who may not be of legal age and there are a few duplicate names;
- the spelling of names was quite creative. some names were duplicated but there may have been some junior/senior situations. This is copied to the best of my ability, retaining spelling and pages. You will note that there seems to be several duplications of names. In other words, the same names are on more than one page.
- The numbers after each name are as they were included on the original copies I received from the Tennessee Archives.
- There may be a problem using the sitewide search engine as very creative spellings of the names was used. It would be useful to read through the list of names, as you might find your ancestor’s name as an alternate spelling.

To the Honourable The General Assembly of the State of Tennessee Greeting your humble petioners prayeth that there may be a New county Laid out Beginning at the North East corner of Wain County thence due north — Thence west –Thence South –Thence East To the begining and that the following cittizens We do Recommend to your honorable Body as propper persons qualified to act as Justices of the peace We hope your Honourable body will give them the appointments as such your petioners humbly pray That the corts and quarter sisons will be apointed pro tem To be held at Hous of Major John Davidson

To The Honourable the general assembly of the State of Tennessee Greeting
Your humble petioners Living North of the Tennessee river and south of duck river over the military line permitted To settle these lands by authority of the United States after the Treaty & Relinquishment of the Claim of The chickasaw Indian Tribe To the united States Under many difficulties and privations your petioners have maid value able improvements on said lands that ads real value Too them which has attracted the Notice of the Idle speculators of our country. We are good citizens of the state of Tennessee reposeing all confidence in the wisdom and Justice & patriotism In our Legislature Humbly Implore Notice and aid from them your petioners pray
Tnat there may be a law pased this session of the General assembly that will give the actual Settlers on said lands a prefference right To Enter those improvements Other wise so modified that if that cannot be the case that all Entries that Is maid on Improvements by speculators or other persons Not for the benefit of the actual Improver of said Lands the person making such Entries on Said Lands shall with in six months after making such Entry or Entrys pay the full Value of said Improvements futher your humble petioners prays Not
