Church of Christ, Rives
Rives Church of Christ was established circa 1880 with the help of Brother Mills of Glass, Tom Osborne of Union City and H. B. Williams of Nashville. Worship services were first held in the school building.
November 8, 1887, W. H. Caldwell, M. V. Armstrong and P. Clemmons conveyed to W. S. Long, J. P. McCoy and George F Botts, as trustees, lots 1, 2, and 3 in Block 18 of Rives according to the Jack Harris survey. A building was finished about 1890. In about 1926 a new building was constructed on land conveyed to the trustees (W. E. Warren, G. F. Botts, T. J. Vaden, C. L. Woody and H. P. Reeves by H. H. Wade, Knox Harper and L. G. Moffatt on January 30, 1922).
Circa 1890, the congregation had about thirty-five (35) members including: Mr. & Mrs. E. Laster, M. & Mrs. M. T. Warren, Mrs. Hanna Farris, Mr. & Mrs. H. Botts, Mr. & Mrs. W. S. Long, George F. Botts and others.
Early ministers: Elihu Scott, J. S. Haskins, John R. Williams, Elder Wright, A. G. Freed, N. B. Hardeman, W. C. Hall. Guest speakers: J. C. McQuiddy, F. W. Smith, F. B. Sisygley, and J. W. Dunn.
