Portrait of Andrew F. CalhounAndrew Fletcher Calhoun, was the son of Andrew Calhoun, b. 30 July 1794, and Eleanor George, b. 26 March 1799,  d/o Reuban George and Nancy Hodges.Andrew F. Calhoun was born 31 Oct 1837 and married on 13 April 1865 Annie R. Morphis, b. 9 Oct 1843. His known children were Bates and Ruport (b. 27 Jan 1874 and d. 2 Feb 1935), and a daughter, Willie.

Mr. Thomas Kirsy, Troy TennTom. I received your letter just now in the mornings mail. Well, Tom I am glad to here from once more; also glad to know you enjoyed your entertainment at our house last spring. We are all well in all three familes. 3 of the boys are at home Tom working in town. rupert is running as Espress mesenger on the G. M. O R.R. Bates has goes to sea the last letter we received from him he was in South America. Willie is still at home. She could not marry if She wanted to. She is to mean. Shure Tom, I am out of job been out since Aug 28th. The firm I worked for went out of the shell business that let me out and I have not been able to strike any thing since. Wat is the matter with Sam Lyons. he has quit writing to me if you see him tell him to write. Tom I elieve I am out of soap will have to close. Come down and see us again.Tom I am woarn our old weak no energy no confidence in myself. Now you see a man thus afflicted is not much to King or county. Well it is long lane that never terns. Mr. Sam E. Lyons, Reaves Station, TennSam, I got your letter 15th. glad to here from and glad for you to write as to — as there is — think enough of me —Sam I havent any thing of importance to write you. every thing concerning myself (is) going on just —- you were here. We have had a good rain at last after — months more drough rained all day yesterday and until eleven o:clock last night. rained toay also two showers to night. Sam 10 minute to 1 (?) o:clock feel a little bit — thought I would kill some time scribling to you as I owed you a letter anyway.
Say you spoke of Sarah being at Rives. You mean cousin Sara Caudle I recon; give her regards when you see her again. I do not know what I will do now it is hard for all man like you and myself to jobs in Memphis. I do not know whether I ever will get another or not. They seem to think a man as old as you or I that have not got money saved to take care of him is not good and ————–
I guess they are abot right. I will try to —– a job for myself. It will be my only chance with a —. Sam if I had not had such big family I could have aved a nive —- sum in the last 8 years this time I have been working for Bowdre Bors. I mean Sam if I had had only myself to —– dollars 600 hundred per year multiplied by 8 years and to night Sam I have $12 or 15 dollars in my pocket is all I could show for my time and trouble.Well such is life my wife and children got the benefit of it. you see any how
Sam in the mean time if I see on here of any thing for you I will let you know and I will look for some thing for you.John Bedford came back Texas about week ago.

The following is from his deceased grandson, Eugene Calhoun, and no one is certain what all of it means.
Company F Confederate National 33rd Tenn Vol Andrew F. Calhoun
July 4th 1861.  Enlisted Union City, Tenn Chatham brigade, Hood
Command training and winter quarters. Columbia Battle, Perryville
battle, Shilo (sic) wounded Sunday morning April 6 ’62 at sunrise on bank on Tennessee river at Pittsburg landing right hand torn off above wrist by a piece of bomb shell. Went to rear for medical aid hoscital (sic) all full with dead and wounded.  Walked to Corinth Miss 22 miles.  There wound dressed sent to Tupelo miss (sic) on foot to confederate hospital then what uniform Corinth to Tupelo 65 miles
Tupelo to Mfs 119.  All this distance walked while wounded while at home recouperateing captured by Federal and put in prison N. E. corner of Court Square
