Mr. J. S. Calhoun and family have moved to Conyersville, Tennessee. [Sat. 03-27-1880 A2]

Mrs. Charity Calhoun, an old lady of Pryorsburg, fell from porch last Sunday (15 May 1881) and broke her leg. Had to be amputated, but she died Tuesday (17 May 1881). Leaves many friends. [Sat. 05-21-1881 A2]

Married at the residence of Mrs. Humphreys on 11-02-1882 by Squire G. W. Thompson, Mr. L. B. Rust to Miss Mary E. Calhoun, all of Graves County. [Sat. 11-11-1882 A2]

>From Boydsville the 3rd…Dr. J. C. Calhoun died 01-26-1885 at his father’s in Conyersville, Tennessee. [Fri. 02-06-1885 A2]

>From Pryorsburg…Mr. James Calhoun lost a little girl last week. Died of stomach trouble. [Wed. 09-26-1894 A6]

Several days ago while getting out rock on his farm near Cerulean, Charley Nabb found a skelton of a human being. A number of years ago a young man by the name of Calhoun disappeared from that neighborhood and was never afterwards heard of, and it is surmise of some that this recent find may be his bones. [Wed. 03-16-1898 A8]

The Messenger has many friends in the county that appreciate its effort to give its readers something old as well as something new that will be of interest to its large number of admirers. This time we publish a copy of some very old papers. This time we publish a letter written by that great American statesman, John C. Calhoun.

Pendleton, 22nd of May, 1827

Sir: As I act as agent of my mother-in-law, Mrs. F. Calhoun, in the payment of her taxes, but owing to circumstances connected with my absence on publick services, the return of her taxable etc., and payment of the tax due have been omitted. Her lands are the same as heretofore returned and her negroes are 48.

If you will let me know the amount of her taxes they will be paid immediately.

The letter was written on good unruled paper folded and sealed and addreses as follows:

James Douthit Esquire Tax Collector Pendleton District Douthit P. O.

With these words written on the lower left corner of the letter: “The P. M. will oblige by sending this first opportunity.” “Paid 6” was written on the upper right corner, which shows that 6 cents or six shillings or 6 pence were paid as postage. [Thu. 03-12-1903 B5]

Ben C. Bowden, public guardian, was appointed Wednesday as guardian for Jesse Calhoun age 19 years, Gladys Calhoun age 8 years and Nellie Calhoun age 5 years. [Wed. 07-15-1908 C7]

Ben Calhoun and Miss Arizona Gibson, of the city, left Saturday morning on the early train for Fulton where they were married. After the ceremony they left on a few days bridal trip before going to Poplar Bluff, Missouri to make their future home. [Sat. 03-27-1909 D3]

C. P. Calhoun, the drug drummer of Cairo, left for Wingo this morning. [Wed. 09-08-1909 D5]

Misses Pearl and Carrie Calhoun left Saturday for Hopkinsville to visit their brother, Fred Calhoun. [Sat. 09-18-1909 D6]

C. T. Calhoun, the drug salesman, is in the city from Paducah. [Wed. 10-20-1909 D7]

Alleging that her husband, Hilery Calhoun, treated her in such a cruel manner as to make life miserable, Maude Calhoun instituted proceedings for a divorce on Monday. The couple were married 08-28-1908 in Cairo and the seperation took place 01-17-1910. [Tue. 07-19-1910 E3]

The Union City Banner has the following to say regarding the captain of the Mayfield camp of the W. O. W. recently on an encampment there: The young captain from Mayfield, whose company took first prize, was Capt. Blasingame. He was born near Mt. Aararat in the Sixth Dist., Obion county and was the son of the late Crockett Blassingame and the grandson of that grand old Confederate soldier, Tom Kersey. His grandmother was a Calhoun, as gallant and as honorable family of people as ever breathed. We only say this to show that blood and breeding tell. His name was Pete Blassingame. Elmer Calhoun and wife, who were married Sunday in Fulton, left Wednesday for Aniston, Missouri to make their home. [Tue. 09-13-1910 E3]

Ben Dixon, north of Murray, left Monday for Cadiz where he will attend the special term of Trigg Circuit Court. The trial of Calvin Calhoun charged with killing Andrew Dixon is set for the special term. Andrew Dixon was a nephew of Ben Dixon. [Fri. 02-24-1911 E4]

Marriage license was issued Wednesday afternoon to J. R. Calhoun, a farmer and stockman of near Pryorsburg, to Mrs. Emma Randolph. Mrs. Randolph lives in the south part of Mayfield and is the widow of the late Isaac Randolph. [Wed. 03-19-1913 F1]

Herman Calhoun of East Prairie, Missouri and Miss Ethel Skinner, of Pryorsburg, were joined in marriage Monday night in Mayfield. The ceremony was performed by County Judge W. V. Gregory. [Tue. 03-31-1914 F5]

Mr. Calhoun will visit his son, Elmer Calhoun in Hope, Arkansas next week. [Sat. 05-02-1914 F5]
