“John L. Marshall passed his youthful days on the farm and received an
academic education. In 1869 he entered Cumberland University where he
completed his education. Having taught two term she commenced the study of
law and was admitted to the bar in 1875. He then became a partner of P. C.
Smithson and two years later dissolved partnership, practicing alone until
1883. He then became a member of the firm of Cowden and Marshall of
Lewisburg. Mr. Marshall is an Elder in the Presbyterian Church and his
wife belongs to the same church. He is a conservative Democrat and is
considered by all as an able and successful young lawyer.”

“Lebanon, Tenn, Jan. 23 (Special)A sad death to his relatives and friends
was that of Robert Marshall of Nashville, who died of pneumonia while on a
visit to his wife’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.A.Thurman, of near
Statesville.
He was thirty-eight years of age and a fine businessman. He and his wife
having been called here by the serious illness of Mrs. Thurman, he
contracted the disease, dying a few days later. He died Thursday afternoon
and the funeral will be held at the home Saturdayby the Rev. H. T.
Sinthe.”

Yesterday at McKendree Church, the marriage of Miss Jessie Marie Oden and
Mr. Will Marshall took place in the presence of a limited number of
friends and the immediate family, the Rev. W.B. Alexander officiating. Mrs.
Lillian Shaw served as matron of honor and Mr. Leon Shaw was the best man. The bride, who is the attractive daughter of Mr. Felix Hill Oden, wore a
becoming blue cloth suit with a white leg horn hat, and carried a bouquet
of lilies of the valley and sweet peas. Mr. and Mrs. Marshall have a number
of friends who will be interested in their marriage. hey left immediately
after the ceremony for an extended trip and will be at home after the first
of August at 1112 North Second Street, Eastland.”
