Versie Inez Nichols Dies at 62 Years

Mrs. Versie Inez Nichols, 62, died suddenly July 15 at her home in the Ebenezer community of this county. Mrs. Nichols had fallen six weeks ago and broken a hip, but until recently. Funeral services were held at the Ebenezer Baptist church on Friday, July 17 by Elders W. T. Russell, Genie Gregory, and T. C. Jones. Burial was in Haysville Cemetery.

She was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist church. Mrs. Nichols was a native of Macon county, the daughter of Jim O. and Vickie Smith Russell. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Nichols; three sons Clarence Nichols of Madison, and Ray and T.V. Nichols, both of Dixon Springs; a daughter, Mrs. Corinne Evetts, Dixon Springs; two brothers, Leslie Russell, Dixon Springs, and Patty Russell, Franklin, KY; 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Alexander Funeral home, Lafayette, was in charge of arrangements.

NICHOLS, Graves (d. 1870)

Funeral Services For Graves Nichols Held Friday

Robert Graves Nichols (age 84) retired farmer passed away at his home in the Ebenezer community last Wednesday afternoon.

A native of Macon County he was the son of Drury and Liza Shrum Nichols. His first wife, Mrs. Ella Hooper Nichols passed away in 1917. Later he married Mrs. Annice Gammons Nichols, who survives.

Funeral services were held Friday at 2:00 PM at Alexander Funeral Home by Elder T.C. Jones and Elder E.C. Butler. Burial was in the Haysville cemetery.

Survivors other than his wife include one son, Graves Nichols, Lafayette; two daughters, Mrs. V.C. McDuffee of Scottsville, Ky., and Mrs. Elton Brawner, Lafayette; one brother, Thomas Nichols, Ebenezer; 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

NICHOLS, Odell (d. 1943)

Odell Nichols is Summoned by Death

Simpson Odell Nichols, aged almost 60 years, died at his home on the old county farm two miles east of Lafayette, at four o’clock Monday afternoon. He had had high blood pressure for some time and was taken suddenly worse only a short time before the end. He was in charge of the farm and had been given the same position on the new county farm located west of town for the coming year. The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lottie Nichols; two sons, Asa Nichols of Indianapolis; and Pfc Graylon Nichols, now in the Hawaiian Islands; four daughters, Mrs. Evie Dalvy and Mrs. Florzelle Leath, both of Detroit; Mrs. Gracie Smith of Old Hickory; and Mrs. Bevie Dickens of the Ebenezer section of the county; two step-daughters Mrs. Claudia King, of the Underwood community and Miss Jessie Jack Steen residing with her mother,; fourteen grandchildren; and two brothers, Robert and Thomas Nichols, both of the Ebenezer section.

The remains were laid to rest late Tuesday afternoon in the Haysville Cemetery, following funeral services conducted from Haysville Baptist church by Elder Calvin Gregory. The deceased was converted as a youth and united with Ebenezer Baptist church. He was a native of that section and was the son of Drury and Eliza Shrum Nichols.
