PIRTLE, Sarah – (d. 1949)

Mrs. Sarah Pirtle Is Paralysis Victim

After having suffered a paralytic stroke some years ago and a second stroke recently, Mrs. Sarah Pirtle, aged 80 years, died at the home of her nephew, O.C. Green in Lafayette about one o’clock Monday afternoon. She had resided until recently in the Williams section where she had made her home for many years. She was the widow of the late John Pirtle. They had no children. She left a half-sister, Mrs. Muncie Cooper, of Aurora, Illinois, and about a dozen nephews and nieces as her only immediate surviving relatives.

Burial was made about noon Wednesday in the family graveyard near Williams, following funeral services conducted by Elder John Carter Holland, from the Williams Church of Christ, of which she had been a member for a number of years. She was a good old woman, and was highly esteemed by all who knew her. She was the daughter of Thomas J. and Nancy Shrum Green, and was born in the Brown’s section of this county.

DOSS, Verlie Napier – (d. 1975)

Obituary: Funeral Services for Mrs. Verlie Doss, 80, Set for Today

Funeral services for Mrs. Verlie Napier Doss, 80, will be held today (Thursday) at 11:00 at White Oak Church of Christ by John Carter Holland. Burial will be in the Underwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Doss died Tuesday afternoon at Smith-Chitwood hospital after a long illness.
She was a native of Allen County, KY., daughter of John and Martha Napier. She was a member of the Church of Christ.  Survivors include 3 sons, John and Dessie Doss, Lafayette; Charlie Doss, Indianapolis; a brother Joe Napier, Lafayette; a sister Lula Doss, Lafayette; 17 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Alexander Funeral Home, Lafayette, was in charge of arrangements.

DOSS, Robert – (d. 1952)

Obituary: Robert Doss Dies at Home of Son

Robert Doss, a respected 72 year old farmer of the Puncheon Creek section of the county, died suddenly about 5:30 Tuesday afternoon at the home of his son, John Doss, in the Oak Knob community of the county. Death was attributed to a sudden heart attack. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Verlie Napier Doss; 3 sons, the other 2 being Charlie Doss of Indianapolis, and Dennie Doss, of the Walker Springs section of the county; 16 grandchildren; 3 brothers, Wilson Doss of the Underwood section; Hubert Doss of Indianapolis; and William Doss of Red Hill; and 2 sisters Mrs. Lizzie King and Mrs. Vicki Driver, both of the Underwood community.

Burial is to be made Friday afternoon at one o’clock in the Underwood Cemetery, with funeral services conducted by Elder John Carter Holland, of the Church of Christ of which the deceased had been a devoted member for a number of years. He was the son of Bittie and Polly Blankenship Doss, and was a native of the Puncheon Creek section.
