DAY, William Clark – (d. 1949)

Clark Day Dies at Home Near Lafayette

William Clark Day, aged nearly 72 years, died at his home about four miles west of Lafayette on Sunday afternoon. He suffered a heart attack early this year, but was thought to be progressing nicely when a sudden attack of illness developed early Sunday afternoon, ending his life shortly afterward. It is supposed that heart disease was the cause of his death. His wife, Mrs. Lethia Susie Shrum Day, died two years ago. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Freeley Caruthers, of Allen County, Kentucky; Mrs. Adron Carr, of this county; and Mrs. Huel Wheeley, who resided with her father; eight grandchildren, four brothers, Jim Day, of New Harmony; Frank Day, of Westmoreland; and John Day, of Nashville; and a sister, Mrs. Alva Norman, also of near Lafayette.

The remains were laid to rest at a late hour Monday in the Drury Cemetery, following funeral services conducted by Elder William Norman, assisted by Elder Calvin Gregory. The deceased was a hard working farmer and was a native of the New Harmony section. He was a member of the Cedar Bluff Baptist church, and was one of the highly respected citizens of this community. He was the son of Sam and Lizzie Warner Day.

BURFORD, Bray – (d. 1932)

After having been in failing health for some time from a kidney disorder, Burford Bray, a 78 year old farmer of near Webbtown passed away at four o’clock Saturday afternoon.  His last illness began Tuesday and he grew steadily worse till the end.  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nan Bray; one son, Odell Bray, and daughter, Miss Dezzie Bray, both of near Webbtown; two brothers, Alex and Bill Bray, both residing in this county, two sisters, Mrs. Belle Pipkin of Texas, and Mrs. Laura Freeman of the county.  Following brief funeral services conducted by the undertaker, Homer Alexander, burial was made at three o’clock Sunday afternoon in the McDonald cemetery.

BRAWNER, Melvina – (d. 1936)

A stomach ailment claimed the life of Mrs. Melvina Brawner at her home in Franklin, KY, on Thursday afternoon of last week. She was 53 years of age and was for many years a resident of the Beech Bottom community, being the widow of the late Tom V. Brawner. She is survived by two sons, Radford Brawner, also of Franklin; and Bethel Brawner of Beech Bottom; and four daughter, Mrs. Mittie Coker, and Mrs. Lillie Gann, both of near Lafayette; Mrs. Janie Gregory of Pleasant Shade, and Mrs. Nola Tinsley, with whom the deceased made her home.

Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon by Elder Calvin Gregory, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Nelse McDonald cemetery. Mrs. Brawner was a Miss Garrett prior to her marriage. She was a devoted member of Beech Bottom Baptist church for many years.

BRAWNER, Margaret – (d. 1948)

Mrs. Mag Brawner is Heart Attack Victim

Mrs. Margaret Brawner, known to most of her acquaintances as Mrs. Mag Brawner, died unexpectedly at her home in the Spring Creek section of the county on Friday morning, passing away suddenly about nine thirty o’clock. Death was attributed to a heart attack. She had been in poor health for months from a heart disorder. She was the widow of the late Pate Brawner, who died about 17 months ago. She leaves three sons, Jesse Brawner, local businessman; Earl Brawner, of Maple Grove; and Raymond Brawner, residing with his mother; five daughters, Mrs. C.H. Dillard, of Lafayette, Mrs. Burrell Marsh of Maple Grove; Mrs. Bedford Hutcherson, of Indianapolis; Mrs. Bert Bandy, of Hartsville; and Mrs. G.A. Gregory, of Nashville; 27 grandchildren , 12 great grandchildren, one brother, James Cox of Williams; one sister, Miss Loe Cox, of Red Boiling Springs; a half-brother, Willie Cox of Williams; and two half sisters, Mrs Ida Dillard and Mrs. Ada Dallas, both also of Williams.

The remains were laid to rest on Saturday afternoon at three o’clock, following funeral services conducted by Elder P.H. Brooks, pastor of Spring Creek Baptist Church, of which the deceased had been a member for a number of years. She was held in high esteem by all who knew her, Mrs. Brawner was the daughter of Pate and Adeline Dixon Cox, and was a native of the Dry Fork section of the county.

ANDREWS, Richard – (d. 1944)

Richard Andrews is Victim of Paralysis

Richard Andrews, age 72 years, died at his home in the Dry Fork section of the county about one o’clock Monday afternoon of last week after months of ill health. However, death was attributed directly to a paralytic stroke. His wife, Mrs. Jane Dixon Andrews, died seven years ago. He is survived by four sons, Johnnie Andrews, who resided with his father; Robert Andrews, living nearby; Jesse Andrews, of Franklin, KY; and Benton Andrews, of the Pumpkintown section; one daughter Mrs. Ollie Brooks, who kept house for her father; and a number of grandchildren.

The remains were laid to rest about three thirty o’clock last Tuesday afternoon in the Shrum Cemetery at the home of Esquire O. L. Barnsfield, following funeral services conducted from Beech Bottom Baptist Church by Elder Calvin Gregory. The deceased was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church for many years and was one of the good men of his section. He was the son of Albert Andrews, and was born and reared in the Dry Fork section.
