Mounce, Barbara Jean
Barbara Jean Mounce, age 66, passed away on March 24, 2026.
She was born on June 18, 1960, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late C.L. Hinson and Margaret Fowler Hinson. Barbara was united in marriage to James Wendall Mounce on April 18, 1977, sharing many years together until his passing on May 24, 2024.
Barbara was a devoted homemaker who completed her education through the eighth grade. She was often described as the strongest woman anyone knew-sharp as a tack, deeply loving, and a true firecracker in spirit. Her personality filled every room she entered, and her infectious laugh was unforgettable. She would often try to share a funny story with her family, only to dissolve into laughter before finishing, causing everyone around her to laugh right along with her.
She had a deep love for old black-and-white television shows, especially Abbott & Costello, and adored Betty Boop. Music was a joy in her life-she loved to sing and cherished listening to her son Brandon sing “You Are My Sunshine,” especially a treasured recording from his kindergarten play. Barbara also enjoyed classic rock music, including AC/DC.
Christmas was her favorite season, and she found great happiness in traditions and classics like Frosty the Snowman and Home Alone. Above all, Barbara’s love for her family was unmatched, often expressed in her heartfelt words, “I love you as big as the world.”
She is survived by her sons, James “Jimmy” Mounce (Tammy) and Brandon Mounce (Ana); her daughter, Crystal Mounce; her brother, Larry Jo Hinson (Trish); her sisters, Liz Hinson (Roger) and Pat Lividini (Mike); her sisters-in-law, Betty Guyzek, Georgia (Ted) Szlachta, Fran (Jim) Balentine, Sharon (Ronnie) Kilgore, Dorsey (Dario) Donati, and Janie (Jim) Bullock; five grandchildren, Anthony Martinez Mounce (Marcus), Josh Martinez Mounce (Sam), Daniel Martinez Mounce, Hunter Mounce, and Dean Mounce; one great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews, including Derek (Tina), Brett, Joe, Amanda & Jen, Kelly (Ralph), Jerry (Barbara), Savannah, Sonya, Dario, Geno, Jerry, Berry, Dani, Dustin, Robert, and Randy; and other relatives, including Amanda Bradley (Jarred), Jennifer, and Derek Lividini (Tina).
In accordance with her wishes, no services will be held. Barbara’s body will be donated to science, a final act of giving that reflects her enduring strength and generosity.
