Mathis, Claude R
Claude Randolph Mathis passed away on September 30, 2024, at the age of 84. He was born on August 14, 1940 in Lewis County to the late John Henry and Lenora Talley Mathis.
Claude had a love for hunting and fishing that was only matched by his dedication to farming. His skills in repairing tractors, cars, and trucks were well-known, and his affection for ’57 Chevys became a defining part of his life. Claude was rarely seen without grease on his hands, a symbol of his tireless work ethic and love for mechanics.
He was a faithful member of the Sweetwater Church of Christ. Claude’s memory will be cherished and kept alive by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, John and Lenora, he was also preceded in death by nine siblings.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his children Kerrie Gallaga, Karen Prentice, and Bobby Joe Smith; his sister, Nell Harris; eight grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Visitation with the Mathis family will be on Thursday, October 3, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McDonald Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 4,2024 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of McDonald Funeral Home with burial following in Whitehead Cemetery.
