Martin, James Ronald
James Ronald Martin, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away in Centerville, Tennessee on May 8, 2024, at the age of 80. Ronnie was born to the late James and Willie Martin, in Hardeman County on October 5, 1943.
Born in a small town Ronnie’s humble beginnings instilled a deep appreciation for family values. After returning home from Vietnam, Ronnie married his sweetheart Donna Bates on April 19, 1969. Together they raised two boys and built the life they loved. After retirement from Tennessee Gas Pipeline, Ronnie enjoyed pursuing his passions of leadership and dedication to his community.
He was elected mayor of Centerville for one term and served a number of years, as an Alderman for the Town of Centerville. Beyond his political roles he served on numerous boards and committees, including the 911 Board, the airport committee, and as a member of the Masonic Lodge. Ronnie was also a devoted member of the Centerville Church of Christ.
In addition to his parents, Ronnie is preceded in death by his sister Pamela Rusch.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 55 years, Donna Martin, of Centerville, Tennessee, son Brett (Heather) Martin, of Centerville, Tennessee, son Cory (Nicole) Martin of Centerville, Tennessee, sister Joy (David) Deming of Jackson, Tennessee, grandchildren Jake (Camryn) Martin, Case Martin, Finn Martin, Madison, Jackson, Kennadi and a host of nieces and nephews.
Ronnie found joy in the little things and cherished every moment with his family. He had a passion for performance and old hot rods that was passed down to his sons. His cornbread and dressing was the cornerstone of every holiday dinner. Ronnie always had fresh coffee brewed and you were always greeted with the warmth of his smile as he watched you walk in from the carport. His kindness and generosity extended beyond his immediate family, touching the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visitation with the family will be 11 May 2024 from 10:00AM – 2:00 PM at McDonald Funeral Home, Hickman County. A Masonic Service will begin at 11:00 AM at McDonald Funeral Home – Hickman County and Funeral Service to follow at 2:00 PM. Burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Centerville, TN.
