Hill, Karl Ervin “Archie”
Karl Ervin “Archie” Hill was born on June 24, 1954 in Nashville, TN to the late John Ervin and Hattie Mae Hill. He departed this life on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Karl was educated in the Hickman County School System in Centerville, Tennessee. Upon graduation, he entered the United States Navy and served as a hull technician (welder) on the USS Hunley based out of Charleston, South Carolina. After leaving active military service, Karl continued to perform as a welder in the civilian community at Freeman Lumber Company for numerous years until developing health problems.
Karl grew up in the Centerville Church of God as a youngster and later professed a hope in Christ and became a member of the Arrow Rock Church of Christ in Williamsport, Tennessee. Karl was known for his “big’ heart. He was always helping others and dedicating his time and resources to assist his family, friends, community and often even strangers experiencing the ‘hard knocks” of life. He was known for his unwavering love for his Dallas Cowboys and later grew an affinity for the Cincinnati Bengals. You also often could find him engrossed in a good movie or western and keeping abreast of all the Centerville happenings in the Hickman County Times. He was crafty in assembling the tedious details of model cars, trains, and boats.
In addition to his parents, Karl was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Bertha Carter Harris and Everheart Carter; paternal grandparents, Hattie and Andrew Hill and numerous aunts and uncles and one great nephew.
He leaves to cherish his memories two sisters, Eddreana Powell and Annette Campbell of Hendersonville, TN and one god-sister, Emma McClain of Hanover, MD; Life Companion, Ruby Peters of Centerville, TN; one nephew, Damien (Jaime) Powell of Cincinnati, OH; two great nephews, Dillan
Elkins of Nashville, TN and Dominic Powell of Cincinnati, OH; two great nieces, Marissa Hinkel and Mia Powell of Cincinnati, OH; Special cousins, Janette Carter and Deatrice Wells of Nashville, TN, Vivian Mack of Milwaukee, WI, David Wells of Pueblo, CO, Preston Carter of Baton Rouge, LA, and Sharon Jernigan and Chester Gray of Southfield, MI; and numerous other cousins and friends.
Visitation with the family will be 22 July 2023 from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at McDonald Funeral Home – Hickman County. Funeral Services will be 22 July 2023 at 11:00 AM at McDonald Funeral Home – Hickman County. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Centerville, TN.
The family requests in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to the Tennessee Kidney Foundation in honor and memory of Karl Hill.
