MISS OAKLEY RETIRES

Miss Louise Oakley of Jackson and formerly of Lexington after forty-seven years of work in both instructive and administrative level has retired.
Miss Oakley who has been the assistant professor of education at Jackson State Community College was honored with a reception.
This post marked the last of the chain of positions in which she has served the field of education. She began her career teaching elementary and junior high school in Henderson County and was the first supervisor of Henderson County Schools.
Among other fields of service were as an English teacher at Memphis State University, state supervisor of West Tennessee Schools, a position with Birmingham Paper Company as an consultant in education, Dean of Women at Union University and teacher of special reading in Union City schools.
Miss Oakley was initiated into Xl State in 1937 and became a charter member of Theta Chapter in 1939. She organized six chapters among those being Omicron in Decatur and Henderson Counties.
She has been the recipient of numerous honors, being listed in the first published edition of Who's Who of American Women and in the 1974 Educational Roster of Key Women compiled by Delta Kappa Gamma Society.
Miss Oakley is the daughter of the late Nuit Rush and Carlie Page Oakley of Henderson County and Lexington.
