History was made in the summer of 1997 when Lexington's 11-12 year old All-Stars claimed the Little League's first state title and advanced to the Southern Regional Tournament in St. Petersburg, Florida. The team claimed the state title with an 11-1 record, being defeated only by a tough team from Tullahoma. Lexington's team came back after the loss and defeated Tullahoma twice to claim the championship.

On the way to the state title the Lexington team played in the Area Tournament at Lexington defeating County Line 17-0, Decatur County 4-2, and Jackson National 11-8. In the District Tournament at Paris, Lexington defeated Paris 22-6, Humboldt 8-5, and Humboldt 12-8. State Tournament played at Donelson saw Lexington defeat Clarksville 9-7 and Maryville 7-5, to lose to Tullahoma 10-13, defeat Maryville 5-3, Tullahoma 5-3, and Tullahoma 9-8 for the state crown.

In the Southern Regional Tournament at St. Petersburg, Florida, the Tennessee team from Lexington played Alabama losing 6-2, defeated Arkansas 6-2, and lost to Virginia 10-0.

Team members, all being 12 year olds, were Robbie Goff, Ryan Blair, Wes Roberts, Bobby Finley, Lee Wilkinson, Brett Walker, Dustin Page, Adam Harrington, Jason Smith, Blake Stone, Christopher Harris, Brandon Hollingsworth, Chase Parker, and Nathan Smith. 1995 Lexington Little League 9-10 Year Old All-Stars

Many of the boys on the 1997 team had played together for several years. Two years earlier they had been state runners up in the 9-10 year old age bracket.
