FAIRVIEW CHURCH OF CHRIST

The following brief history appeared in the church bulletin for Sunday August 2, 1998.

A small group of Christians met for worship in the one room elementary school house known as Timberlake Elementary School. This group met for approximately one and a half to two years before building the first building known as Fairview Church of Christ.

In November of 1946, Henry Wilson and wife, Molly, gave a track of land located on Highway 22 north of Lexington for the purpose of building a small church building. This building was named Fairview Church of Christ.

The deed specified as trustees: C. C. (Charlie) Wilson, the son of Henry and Molly Wilson, Alton Adams, and R. P. Hollowell.

The original building was only about 40 feet by 24 feet. Approximately four or five years later, the building was extended and two classrooms were located in a small basement area. Another addition provided two additional classrooms and two restrooms.

When the church building was first completed, a preaching service was held only once or twice a month. The first man to preach every Sunday was a man by the name of Parnall Roark.

The present building was begun in November, 1997. Through much prayer, many hours of hard labor and generous gifts, the first service was held on June 7, 1998, with 104 present. Charles Thomason preached that service.
