from the collection of Mark Breen
Mark Breen is a retired New York State Trooper. He acquired a 38 caliber Colt Official Police revolver similar to those used by the New York State Police in the 1940’s and 1950’s. After receiving the revolver, he noticed an electric pencil engraving on the butt of the gun of “USWC” and a serial number. Mark was curious as to the origin of the gun so he sent off to Colt to have an archive check done on the gun. Colt provided documentation that the gun was part of a shipment of 69 revolvers shipped to the commanding officer of the Wolf Creek Ordnance Plant on June 5, 1942.

I too have a firearm with the “USWC” etching. It is a Winchester Mod. 1897 shotgun that was manufactured/shipped in 1941. This article has solved the mystery of the marking. I would greatly appreciate having an opportunity to contact Mr. Breen to inquire about any further findings he may have had. I am also seeking any memorabilia that may be available related to Wolf Creek Ordnance that could be reunited with my firearm. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
