The Committee met at the court house in Bolivar, in pursuance of call of Chairman on April 29, 1886, with following members present, C. H. ANDERSON – Chairman, A. J. COATES – Secretary, R. W. SMITH, R. N. MITCHELL, W. D. HANKINS, and C. A. MILLER, members F. M. McGLATHERY and S. H. CLINTON were absent. J. W. WILSON was represented by proxy and by the Chairman. On motion of C. A. MILLER, a convention of the Democracy of Hardeman County, was called for May 29, 1886.
A. J. COATES, Esq. tendered his resignation as Secretary of the Committee alleging his candidacy for Attorney General as a reason for same. The committee reluctantly accepted same after voting thanks to Mr. COATES for his efficiency as secretary. On motion of R. W. SMITH, Esq., C. A. MILLER was elected secretary in place of COATES, resigned. – signed C. H. ANDERSON, Chairman and C. A. MILLER, Secretary.

There was a large crowd in town on Monday last, and trade was quite lively. Monday last was a good day for our merchants because so many were trading. Some of the leading farmers think the season two weeks ahead of last year.

Little Mattie COCHRAN who has been quite sick for some time is now thought to be improving.

Prof. ROSE has just received a globe and set of maps, for the use of his academy at Cloverport.

Mr. Paul T. JONES has moved to the place bought by him of O. B. POLK, in town.

Esq. R. N. MITCHELL has moved to the Dupuy place, west of the railroad.

The weather this week has been lovely, and the farmers are taking advantage of it. Very few farmers have been in town since Monday last.

Mr. J. C. McCABE is making brick in a hurry on the Asylum grounds. He will have the brick ready for the contractors by the time they will need then.

Prof. ROSE, of Cloverport, has secured the services of Miss Mattie OVERTON, as assistant teacher. Miss OVERTON has an excellent reputation as a teacher.
