Robert Whitwell filed a 200 acre land entry in June 1902 in Barren Co., KY, where Thomas Whitwell (brother?) appears on the tax rolls of Barren Co. each year from 1802 to, and including 1809, being taxed as one male over 21 with several horses, as well as his land–variously listed as 100 or 200 acres. Robert Whitwell sold 200 acres of land in Barren Co. on October 31, 1807, giving his address as “Dixon, Tenn.” which is actually Dickson Co. TN. Robert Whitwell is not listed in the 1810 census of Barren Co., KY, although Thomas Whitwell is. There is no 1810 census for Dickson Co., Tennessee. On August 15, 1811 Robert Whitwell bought land in Dickson Co., TN, from Stephen Tatom for $200. The land was “on both sides of Yellow Creek.” On 15 Sept. 1817 Robert Whitwell bought more land from James Stephens. On the 7th and 15th of August 1817 Robert Whitwell received two grants of land, one for 15 acres and one for 5 acres from Tennessee Governor James McMinn. The land was “near the head of Yellow Creek of Cumberland River in the first district, next to William Tatum’s line.” Robert Whitwell was the executor of the estate of Joseph Hall, deceased. Settlements were made on January 03, 1831; January 25, 1832; January 05, 1835; and January 30, 1835, all in Dickson County. He was also the guardian of the minor heirs of Henry Hall, deceased. Robert Whitwell lived nearly 90 years on this earth; his life is well- documented. He was a conscientious tax payer; he was a land owner in Kentucky for several years, a land owner in Dickson Co., TN, for about 30 years, and in Lafayette Co., Miss., for 20 years or more. Also, see Tennesse and Tennesseans, page 1231, by Hale and Merritt, 1913 (error in reporting of Rev. Pleasant Whitwell as son of Robert).
