HUNTER, James Washington (d.1935)
J. W. Hunter was born May 4, 1854, died March 4, 1935 at his home in Dickson Co., TN where he had lived for the past fifty-two years. At death he was past eighty years of age. He professed faith in Christ in early manhood and united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Mt. Liberty, where he remained a faithful member until death. He was made a ruling elder in the Mt. Liberty congregation in 1915, and was faithful and loyal to his church in the performance of the duties of this office so long as health did permit. “Uncle Jim” as he was called by his many friends, will be sadly missed from his accustomed place in the home, in the church and in the community. Although he has gone to his reward, his deeds will live on in the lives of men. He was three times married, and was the father of eleven children, nine of whom, together with his last wife, survive. He also leaves one sister and several grandchildren and gr-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted from the Mt. Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian Church by the pastor, Rev. Z. N. Clinard, and burial was in the church cemetery. May this ever be our prayer, “Thy will be done; not mine”.
