WILSON, J.P. – Confirmed as Postmaster (1897)
Last Wednesday’s American had the following from Washington under date of Feb. 23: “The senate today confirmed the nomination of J.P. WILSON to be postmaster at Huntingdon, Tenn.” This was very nearly as great a surprise to the republicans as was his appointment for it was believed that the senate would refuse confirmation and the matter would hang fire until after March 4, when McKinley would name a man. But they were mistaken in their hopes for Capt. WILSON is appointed postmaster for a term of four years. We are not informed as to when he will take charge or who will be his assistant.
