VAN SHANKLEFORD – Robbed the Post Office (1897)
Ex-Sheriff M.B. ROBESON turned over to Jailor S.J. CHAMBERS, last Tuesday, VAN SHANKLEFORD, who was committed to jail to await the action of the grand jury. Mr. SHANKLEFORD is charged with breaking into the store of John ADAMS, in which the post office is kept, at Lavinia. Several small articles of merchandise and about $19 worth of postage stamps were taken. The burglary was committed last Friday night and Mr. ROBESON captured his man in the edge of Henderson county last Sunday. He was tried Monday, bound over to the court and in default of bail committed to jail. He is in a bad row of stumps, for when the state gets through with him the United States government will give him a round. Shankleford has figured in the criminal court before.

If the above S.J. is the same Seaborn Johnson Chambers, John Sr is his great grandfather.
John Sr is also brother to my 3rd great grandfather, William Sr who died 1838 in Wilkinson Co, G.a
