EVANS, Dudley – Not Dead (1897)
The Democrat was informed last week that Dudley EVANS, of the Twenty-third district, was dead, and an account of the same appeared in its columns. Mr. EVANS was in town Tuesday and denies the charge, and for once, at least, the Democrat is forced to admin that all you see in it is not true. Mr. EVANS in fact is a very live man and although quite old bids fare to live many years yet.
The congratulations his friends, who had read the account of his death, extended him were very much enjoyed by the old man. The Democrat’s informant made the mistake of grieving the wrong man. It was a Mr. PREWITT that died. Mr. EVANS had a load of ax handles, of his own make, with him Tuesday selling them, for a quarter and seemed to have a very good sale.
