BURNS, James Thomas, retail merchant; born near McLemoresville, Tenn., May 5, 1849; son of John and Margaret (Patton) BURNS; father’s occupation, farmer; paternal grandparents, Richard and ——- (Newbill) BURNS, maternal grandparents William and Mary (Wright) PATTON; educated at Bethel College, McLemoresville, Tenn., and University of Miss.; worked on farm until 1871, entered the mercantile business in 1875 at Trezevant, Tenn.; married Mary Lee HARRIS, March 27, 1878; member of Knights of Pythias, and United Order of the Golden Cross; Democrat; Vice Pres. and Gen. Mgr. of the Moore & Burns Co., General Merchandise, McKenzie, Tenn.; member of Presbyterian church, U.S.A
