Mrs. Susan Mitchell Passes Away on Old Homestead Near Goshen
Mrs. Susan MItchell, aged 83 years passed away Yesterday.morning, in the old home, five miles southwest of Goshen, where she lived 57 years–all of the time since she came as a bride, with her husband from Missouri to California – in the autumn of 1870. Her demise was caused by infirmities of age.The deceased was born in Tennessee, on May 19, 1844. At the age of six years she removed with the family to Missouri making the journey with an ox team. She grew to womanhood in that state, and there on October 2, 1870, she was united in marriage to Adolphus Mitchell.
Shortly afterward, they came to California and to Tulane county. They settled near Goshen, on the place that was to be their homestead as long as they lived. The husband deceased several years ago.Three children–two sons and one daughter survive the mother. They are Walter Mitchell and Arthur Mitchell still residing on the old homestead and Mrs. Addie Jones of Visalia. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren living in the old home and in and near Visalia and two nieces in Southern California.
Mrs. Mitchell was a consistant member of the Methodist church. Final services to the memory of the late pioneer will be conducted from the Brooks chapel in Vasalia at 2:30 o’clock tomorrow afternoon. Rev. A.W. Gray pastor of the Methodist church in Visalia to officiate. Burial will be made in the Tulane cemetery, where reposes the body of the husband.
Susan is the daughter of William “Billy” Bogle (son of George Bogle and Margaret Hines) and Sarah Summers.Index to Newton Co.,MO wills and Administrations 1839-1910: William Bogle-Admx Sarah Bogle 29 Dec 1860William is not listed in the 1860 Newton Co.,MO census Index.
The Bogle files in Newton Co.,MO say that Wm. left TN in 1853 and moved to Cassville, Mo,Berry Co. and also says he is buried in the True Love Cemetery. Then Sally with her children and a slave named Ras moved to Newton Co.,Mo. Her records show they moved to Newton Co. in 1870.

“Hopkins Farmer Dies of Injuries”
J.W. Wilson, of Hanson Section, Is Victim of Team of Frightened Horses.
Madisonville, Ky.,April 21-J.W. Wilson, 58, a farmer of the Hanson section dies this morning in the hospital from injuries received on April 14. Mr. Wilson was driving his team of horses to Hanson for the purpose of plowing some gardens. He had his dog tied, but the dog got loose and began following him. He stopped the team and got out of the wagon to make the dog go back home. The team became frightened, made a lunge and jerked him down. He got up and the team jerked him down again. It jerked him down a third time and threw him onto a wheel of the wagon, causing his spine to be injured and paralized him from the shoulders down. Wilson was born in Tennessee, but lived in the Hanson section 38 years. He was a member of Mt. Gilead General Baptist church. He is survived by his widow, four sons, Sam Wilson,Whit Wilson,Mody Wilson and Homer Wilson, all of Chicago, and four daughters, Mrs. Hallie Nance of Madisonville,Mrs. Pauline Maurer of Chicago, Miss Gertrude Wilson of Hanson, and Miss Mary Wilson of Chicago. He also has one brother Mike Wilson who lives in Nebo.

My great grandftaher James W. Wilson was born in Cannon Co, Tn 3 June 1880 and married Mary Ella Davenport in Cannon Co 27 Feb, 1901.

Mary Ella (Davenport) Wilson
Mrs. Mary Ella Wilson, 89, formerly of Hanson and Slaughters, died at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in a St. Louis, Mo., hospital. She was a member of Mt. Gilead General Baptist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Hallie Nance, 207 E. Arch; and Mrs. Pauline Maurer, Mrs. Mary Bean and Miss. Gertrude Wilson, all of St. Louis; two sons, Whitson Wilson, Nebo and Tom Wilson, Chicago; 18 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Harris Funeral Chapel with the Rev. James Williams, of St. Louis, officiating and interment to be in West Lawn Cemetery near Hanson.
Friends may call at the funeral home.

MANCHESTER. Tenn. Services for Jesse Sissom, 87, a retired farmer of the Shady Grove community, will be at 2 p.m. today at Manchester Funeral Home. Burial will be in Shady Grove Cemetery.
Sissom died Sunday in Harton Memorial Hospital, Tullahoma. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Gladys White Sissom; two daughters, Mrs. Alva Nunley, Shady Grove, and Mrs. Ralph Neal, Inverness, Fla.; three sons, Lelon, Inverness, Fla., Willard, Holder, Fla., and John Sissom, Kokomo, Ind.; a sister, Mrs. Ora Schmidt, Cincinnati, Ohio; 22 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Services for Jesse Sissom, 87, Shady Grove, Tenn., a former resident of Clermont and Indianapolis were held Tuesday at Manchester, Tenn., with burial at Shady Grove.
Mr. Sissom died Sunday in a Tullahoma (Tenn.) hospital. Born at Bergan, Cannon County, Tenn., he was an Indianapolis resident from 1944 to 1974. He was a retired inspector at Richardson Rubber Company
where he worked about 11 years. He was a former member of Clermont Christian Church. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Gladys W. [White] Sissom; three sons, Willard L. Sissom of Holder, Fla., Lelon F. Sissom of
Inverness, Fla. and John D. Sissom of Kokomo, and two daughters, Mrs. Rosa Nunley of Shady Grove and Mrs. Laura Neal of Inverness.

The following from John D. Sissom, Kokomo, Indiana: Jesse Spain Sissom, the eighth child of Thomas S. Sissom and Sarah Ann Carrick was born Monday, July 16, 1888, in Bergan, Cannon County, Tennessee, married Gladys Helen White, on December 24, 1916, in Coffee County, Tennessee. The marriage ceremony was performed by Elder George W. Gilbert, and was recorded in the Coffee County Court Marriage record book number 3, page 102. Bergan is no longer in existence, but was near Hollow Springs, the area where most of the family grew up. The older residents of Cannon County call Carson Fork by the name of Bergan today. John D. Mrs Mettie B Alexander
Funeral services for Mrs Mettie B Alexander, 98. were held Saturday, June 21 at First Baptist Church in Woodbury with Bro Bobby Zumbro officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cem with Woodbury Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs Alexander died Thursday, June 19 at Woodbury Nursing center following a brief illness. She was a native of Cannon County, a member of the first Baptist church and a housewife. Mrs Alexander was the daughter of the later Abraham H Davenport and Amanda Elizabeth Odom and she was prededed in death by her husband, the later Oscar R Alexander.
Survivors include a son and daughter in law, Milton and Helen West Alexander of Readyville two daughters and a son in law, Nola A Turney of Woodbury and Mildred A and Donald Paschal of Readyville.

Milton Alexander, 72
Services for Milton Alexander, 72 were held Saturday, October 25 in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with Bro Bobby Zumbro officiating. Burial was in Riverside Garden Cemetery with Woodbury funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr Alexander, a farmer in the Readyville community, died Wed Oct 22 at Columbia Stones River Hospital following an extended illness. He was a native of Cannon Co and the son of the later Oscar B Alexander and Mettie Bell Davenport Alexander.
A member of First Baptist Church, Mr Alexander also served as a member of the Tennesee Walking Horse Breeder’s Association and Exhibitors, the Barn Bureau of Woodbury, was a School board member representing the 14th District for 14 years, served two-three year terms on the Rutherford County Farmers co-op Board and served four years as a board member for Farmers Home Administration.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs Helen West Alexander of Readyville, two sisters and brother in law, Nola Alexander Turney of Woodbury and Mildred (his twin) Alexander Paschal and Donald Paschal both of
Readyville. Active pallbearers were : Floyd Alexander, Melvin Alexander, Wade Alexander, John Boyer, Lytle Tenpenny, Tom Tilford, Jack Pugh and John Dismukes. Contributed by Vera Andrews

Chalmers Tedder, 76
Funeral services for Chalmers Herbert Tedder. 76. were held Tuesday October 14 at Victory Baptist Church in Shelbyville with Pastor Jim Tedder, Michael Hawkins, and Rev Richard Heatherley officiating. Burial was
in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
Mr Tedder died Sunday, Octover 12, at Bedford County General Hospital in Shelbyville from a heart attack. He was a retired truck driver and maintenance supervisor at Victory Baptist Church and a charter Member of
Victory Baptist Church where he also served as a Deacon. He was the son of the late Silas Powell and Alta B Alexander Tedder.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Baines Tedder of Shelbyville, a son, Rev Jim Tedder of Shelbyville, a sister, Mrs Ruby Leach of Auburntown, 2 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.Contributed by Vera Andrews
