Historic Sites In and Around Cannon County
There are several structures in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1975, the Woodbury Lions Club appointed a committee with instructions to found a County Historical Society for the purpose, among others, of of producing a County history. The Society has completed of Historical information on Churches of the County. It has identified, and with the aid of the Bank of Commerce, marked many historic sites.
Currently a map with all the cemeteries, local historical sites, and other points of interest is being prepared. Several groups – the historical society, the town hall, sons of the confederate soldiers, PARQ, the art center, and the county historian are collaborating on it. It is expected to be completed by the end of September 1998.
The sons of the confederate soldiers are also working on a driving tour of cannon county civil war sites, complete with a running dialog.
