Bledsoe County Courthouse Fire, December 9, 1909

The Bledsoe County Courthouse, recently constructed, suffered a fire on December 9, 1909.  Regional newspapers reported all records were salvaged.  However, marriage records and probate records (wills, estates, guardianships) were lost.

Land records (deeds), tax records, and records of the courts were not lost.

Bledsoe County Marriage Reconstruction Project

This project is an attempt to recreate some of the marriage records of Bledsoe County which were destroyed in the 1909 fire.

Records listed in the table were submitted by researchers before 2015.

Some dates are merely estimates from census records and the age of the first child. Some wives surnames have been gleaned from land records, obituaries and other miscellaneous family records. Where possible, a source is given.  The submitter’s name, if applicable, is shown to provide a clue for locating others researching your surnames.

The quality of the reference depends entirely on the source from which it was originally discovered. Despite the problems of documentation, we appreciate very much input from fellow researchers. You not only may find cousins; by submitting your information, you will add to an archive that can be used by present and future family historians.

To submit information for the Marriage Reconstruction Project, please click the E-mail Coordinators button in the side menu.

This table is sorted by Groom.  You can search for Brides’ surnames.
