Perry Co. TN Marriage Records

from the research of Jan Monnin

Marriage records are some of the earliest facts recorded by counties or states. The following is a list of what marriage records exist for Perry County:

There may be marriages before 1861. The Tennessee State Library and Archives (TSLA) has a published list of extant marriages from this time and will check the index for you by e-mail. More information about this is on their website: click here

Marriage records from 1865 through June 30, 1945 are at the TSLA.

From July 1, 1945 – December 31, 1949 there is a year-by-year statewide index of marriages at the TSLA. Go to their website for more information.

For 1950 – 1957, there is a year-by year statewide index of marriages at the TSLA. Go to their website for more information.

Marriages records from 1957 to the present are held by the Office of Vital Records, Tennessee Department of Health.

Statewide index to marriage records 1980-2005 by the Shelby County Register of Deeds http://register.shelby.tn.us/ . When you go to this website, there will be 3 columns. The far right column is marked “archives”. Under the box marked “search type” there is a pull down menu for the different records you can search on this site. One of these searches is the marriage records. Note that you can search these records for the entire state of Tennessee or just one county.

If you have a marriage record that you would like to share (where the person was born from 1930 or before), please contact Jerry Butler, your Perry County TNGenWeb coordinator.
