Transcriber’s Notes:

These are from the marriage books. When a marriage license was applied for, it was written in these books. But when the marriage was actually performed, it was up to the minister of the gospel (M.G.) or justice of the peace (J.P.) to go back and add the solemnization information. Many times it appears this was not done.
Also note that some of these handwritten records were very hard to read. Keep in mind that “W”, “H”, “F”, “N” all look the same. As do other letters, such as “C” and “O”. The word “colored” or “col” will appear after some individuals names, indicating they were colored persons.
keep in mind that these names will not appear in the search functions of this website for 1 – 2 weeks.

Where to obtain copies of the original records:

TSLA. Here’s the link to their website and the marriages: http://www.tennessee.gov/tsla/history/mailcnty.htm#Marriages
These original records are on www.ancestry.com. You must have a membership in order to view/print/save the records.
These records are also available on microfilm from the LDS Library near you. Here’s the link to find a library: https://familysearch.org/eng/library/FHC/frameset_fhc.asp

Note:  It appears they went to a new form of marriage book starting in July 1881.   All Places refer to Perry County or  Tennessee unless otherwise noted.   Also, there was an additional column for “Occupation of Bridegroom” – this was also marked as “farmer” unless otherwise noted.

[The format changed again at this point in Jan Monnin’s transcription for some reason.]
