Mary Ellen Chance, 85, passed away July 24, 1997, after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 28 at Hopkins Lawyer Funeral Home in Akron, Ohio, with the Rev. Sam Rittenour officiating. Burial was at Hillside Memorial Park in Akron.

Born in Waverly, she was an Akron resident for the past 53 years. Mrs. Chance was employed as a marker with City Laundry for 40 years, retiring in 1974. She was a former member of the Akron Baptist Temple, and enjoyed cooking, traveling, and spending time with her grandkids.

Mrs. Chance was married to the late Homer Chance.,

Survivors include sons, Bill Chance of Akron, Murry Chance of Valdosta, Ga., James D. Chance, of Chardon, and James V. Chance of Clinton; daughter, Frances Walters of Chicago, Doretha Brunty of Akron and Sally Phipps of Mt. Pleasant, N.C.; 40 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; brother, Hubert Wright of Kenmore; and sister Minnie Brown and Willie May Baker, both of McEwen.
