Marriage Records – 1893-1900

These data were transcribed by Harry E. Barnes from the work of Johnny D. Walker entitled “Index of Marriages of the Nineteenth Century (1893-1900) of Henderson County, Tennessee”, which was printed in 1989 in extremely limited quantities. There are 1245 marriages listed here, including all of the earliest surviving Marriage Book (Book 2) which begins in 1893, all of Book 3 and portions of Book 4 (up to 31 Dec 1900). There are also 55 marriage records which predate the 1893 surviving courthouse records. These early records, some dating to 1822, were taken from the Goodspeed and Powers histories of Henderson County.

In labeled “Expt”, some marriages have an “ne” or “nr” notation. An “ne” means that the original marriage bond records that the intended marriage was not executed. An “nr” means that the original bond was not returned to the courthouse, and consequently the date listed in the table is the date of the bond, not necessarily the date of the marriage ceremony.

  1. I really appreciate all the hard work you have done but I really liked the old format for marriage records. They were all on the same page and you could search for a specific name on the page whether bride or groom.
Any chance of getting that format back as another option?

  2. Did not find any family here. I am intrested in William Franklin Turner and his son Perry Burton Turner. You hav alot of information thank you

  3. Where can I find these marriage records? Mine probably won’t be in there as I estimate it to have occurred around 1890, but I would still like to check. I don’t see a link or anything anywhere on this page…
