I am interested in locating the descendentants of Nicholas Tate Perkins. My
family recently acquired a portrait of Susannah Currey Perkins (d.1837)
wife of James Madison Perkins (1806-1837) son of Nicholas Tate Perkins.
According to family tradition our portrait is a copy of the original but no
one knows where the original is. Our copy descended from her parents,
through their youngest child who was three years old when her older sister
died at age 22. I am in hopes the original is with a portrait of her
husband that might have come down through his family. It is believed that
all the young couple’s children died before them and therefore there were
no desendents. I am just interested in knowing who has the original
portrait. E-mail SerchinKin [at] aol [dot] com

I am seeking any information available regarding Hardister ancestors in
Williamson Co., TN. I am especially interested in William Hardister who
appears in the 1820 and 1830 census and then seems to completely disappear.
The surname was sometimes spelled “Hardester”. I am trying to determine
whether there is any connection between William Hardister of Williamson
Co., TN and my great-great-grandfather Robert Elisha Hardister who appears
in the 1840 and 1850 census in Carroll Co., TN. I also wish to know the
relationship, if any, between William Hardister and the brothers Samuel and
Alfred Hardister who emigrated to Jackson Co., TN from Randolph Co., N.C.
in time to appear in the 1820 census of Jackson Co.
I am also curious whether anyone may know anything about a fourteen year
old orphan named Samuel Hardister who apprenticed to Thomas Wooldridge to
learn the trade of shoemaker in 1827 by order of the County Court of
Williamson Co., TN. Email: elhard [at] aeneas [dot] net

I am looking for early land records for James Elliott. His children were
James, Elizabeth, Walter Trimble, Jane, Joseph, John and perhaps William. I
have a court document that names all the children and some of the
grandchildren, but I need some kind of date for their arrival in Williamson
county. Some land records that I have seen locate the land transfers in the
Arrington Creek area. I know that James and his wife Elizabeth Trimble
Elliott were from Augusta County Virginia. I am trying to locate James’
parents and need some kind of reference so I know who I am looking for.
there are several James Elliott;s in Augusta, some of whom went to Kentucky
and on to Indiana. There are court records for a James well after the
others supposedly left Virginia, but I do not know if it is my James, a

A couple of years ago, a group of students and I did a local history
project. H. S. Bennett intrigued me. He simply vanished after the Civil
War, and I was never able to locate him. Recently the National Archives
sent me his military records, and a biographical sketch. Because he was
involved in a case that we were investigating, I would like to know if
there are any of his personal papers that are in the area? Is there any of
the Bennett family still living in the area that might have knowledge of
Bennett? Is there a Bennett family historian that could help me track the
children that stayed in Texas? I would appreciate any help that anyone
could provide. Thank you. Judy Falls. Summary of information from National
Archives is provided. Hendley Stone Bennett, was a Congressman from
Mississippi, but was born near Franklin, Williamson County, Tenn., April 7,
l807. He attended the public schools in West Point, Mississippi, studied
law, practiced law in Miss., became a circuit court judge l846-1854 and was
elected as a Congressman to the Thirty-fourth Congress. He came to Texas in
l856, lived near Ben Franklin, Texas, Lamar County, practiced law, served
in Company G, Thirty-second Regiment, Texas Cavalry, from 1861-1862. In
l886 he returned to Williamson County and continued the practice of his
profession. He died in Franklin, Tenn on 12/15/1891 and is buried in Mount
Hope Cemetery. In 1860, he was listed as one of the wealthiest men in the
state, and was married ot Mariah. The children are listed as Sophia (19),
Louisa (16), H. C. (14 m), Mitt(? 12,f.), E. G. (9 m) and J. M.(7f).

Hello – I am writing to see if anyone knows of any information regarding
the Overstreet family. I am descend from the Davis B. Overstreet who
married Parmelia Curtis in Williamson Co., 12/24/1854. “Davis” is variously
recorded as having been born in TN or VA, and his first name is given in a
variety of ways but always with supporting information which shows it is
the same man. I have not been able to find anything about Parmelia Curtis’
birth or parents.
I was told that the Overstreets in my family were recent (around 1900)
German immigrants, and that the Curtises were French. I have learned that
Overstreet is not a German name, not is Curtis French, and they were both
here well before 1900! This and other things have led me to the idea that
they are perhaps Native American. When I shared this idea with a friend of
mine of 20-years, she remembered my mother once telling her that there was
Native American blood in her family. So now I am trying to find out what
the real story is. I can’t ask my mother as she died in 1989, before I got
this far in my research.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your
time, Dianne Hood. Email: MeganDiana [at] aol [dot] com

I believe that Thomas HAMPTON, [son of James Hampton – born 1723], left
Stokes Co., N.C., with his family and accompanied his sister Martha E.
Hampton EVANS and her husband Edward Evans into the Big Harpeth area some
time after 1790. I believe he was the father of Anthony, Preston, James and
possibly even Edward Hampton mentioned on the road crews and early court
minutes in the early 1800’s of Williamson Co.; would like to hear from
descendants who may be able to substantiate this scenario. Email:

Sam Sublett Wed Oct 15 20:20:27 1997
I am currently researching the Sublett family history. My great-great
grandfather was I (Isaiah) P. Sublett, born in Tennessee in 1847. I am
trying to obtain the names of I.P. Sublett’s mother and father. Recently, I
received a copy of the 1830 Tennessee Census which indicated that A. C.
Sublett (age 32 years) lived in Bedford County with a women (wife?) and a
male under the age of five. Records that I have show Subletts in Franklin,
Rutherford, Wilson, and Williamson counties. I.P. Sublett’s parents were
born in Virginia. My family records show an Abraham Sublett born in
Virginia around 1798. Any and all information you might provide to me
regarding the Sublett, Sublette, Soublet, Soblet, (Sublay) family in
America would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
