SWOR, George Washington, miller and merchant; born Henry Co., Tenn., July 11, 1842; son of William and Elizabeth SWOR; father was a farmer and surveyor; received common school education; entered business in 1863 at Owens Hill; married M. T. LEMONDS Dec. 23, 1865; served as private in Co. A, 5th Tennessee Volunteers, was promoted to rank of Sergeant; lost left hand at battle of Perryville, Ky., Oct. 8, 1862, and received discharge and returned home; entered business with William KING and conducted a wool factory, saw mill and corn and wheat mill; property was destroyed by fire in 1873, with a loss of $3,000, but he rebuilt same and continued in business till Feb., 1909, when elected supervisor of roads.
