SMITH, William Templeton, lawyer; born White Co., Tenn., Feb. 14, 1858;  French-Irish-German and English descent; son of W. G. and Amanda R. (Templeton) SMITH; father’s occupation, merchant, lawyer; paternal grandparents, George C. and Martha (Gooch) SMITH, maternal grandparents, William and Lydia (Anderson) TEMPLETON; educated in common schools, and Burritt College; in early life worked on farm and clerked in store; married Joan BOYD, Dec. 11, 1884; member I. O. O. F., F. & A. M.; Democrat; former Judge of the 5th Judicial District of Tenn. appointed by Gov. TURNEY Sep 8, 1893, elected to same position Aug. 1884, reelected Aug. 1902, resigned April 18, 1903; member of Methodist church; engaged in practice of law, exclusively.
