SMITH, Robert E. Lee, physician; born in Van Buren Co., Tenn., Dec. 21, 1864; Scotch-Irish descent; son of Henry P. and Cynthia C.(Hill) SMITH; father’s occupation, physician; paternal grandparents, George C. and Martha (Gooch) SMITH, maternal grandparents, Winkfield and Martha (Anderson) HILL; educated Burritt College, Spencer, Tenn., graduating there with degree of A.B. in 1882, graduated in medicine with degree of M. D. 1886; began life as a teacher and farmer; studied medicine and engaged in practice of his profession at Doyle, Tenn.; married Sarah Elizabeth TAYLOR April 1, 1886; member Church of Christ; F. & A. M., I. O. O. F., Woodmen of the World, White County Medical Association, State Medical Association; Democrat; Examining Local Surgeon for Pensions.
