E. and Julia (Dawson) RICE, his father being a lawyer and Judicial officer; educated local schools Clarksville, Tenn., and Lexington, Ky.; graduated from Lebanon University, Lebanon, Tenn., with degree L.L. B. May 1872; has continued the practice of law and carried on farming operations at the same time; married Ellen D. (Blye) QUARLES in 1871; married second, Annie HOBING, 1893; married third, Mrs. LIVELY, 1908; member Christian church; F. & A. M., K. P., I. O. O. F., Knights and Ladies of Honor; Democrat; Presidential elector Democratic ticket in 1896; member Tennessee House of Representatives in 1899.
