MYERS, Henry C., life insurance solicitor; born Wadesboro, N.C., Oct. 17, 1847; German and Irish descent; son of Absalom and Adeline (Roggan) MYERS; father’s occupation, merchant and planter; educated in public schools at Byhalia, Miss., and University of Miss., Oxford, Miss.; began his business career as a farmer, later served as deputy circuit clerk of Marshall Co., Miss., 1867-1875, with the exception of one year when removed by military authority; sheriff of Marshall Co., Miss., 1876-1878; Secretary of State of Miss., 1878-1886; served as private during latter part of civil war in 2nd Missouri, C.S.A., cavalry; at present he is Assistant Quartermaster-General on the staff of Gen. George W. GORDON, Commander-in-Chief of U.C.V. Assn.; married Minnie WALTER, May 15, 1873; interested in cotton planting in Miss. And life insurance and banking in Memphis, Tenn.; National Democrat; member Calvary Episcopal Church.
