McCRARY, George B., retired merchant and miller; born Sullivan, Tenn., March 31, 1836; Scotch-Irish descent; son of John and Sabrina (Akard) McCRARY; father’s occupation, farmer; educated at Bristol, Tenn.; in early life he was a carpenter and bridge builder; married Hannah J. HARRISON, Dec. 1, 1868; member of Masonic Lodge No. 231; Democrat; served as Sergeant in Co. K, 3rd Tenn. Vol. Infantry, and transferred to Co. E 63rd Tenn. Vol. Infantry, during Civil War; member of Methodist Church; engaged in the mercantile business in Morristown, ten., for about 40 years, interested in Morristown mills and president of same for years, also general manager, and took active part in real estate and other public affairs for betterment of home town.
