HAWK, Hiram Decatur, merchant and farmer; born Blountville, Tenn., Feb. 11, 1841; Irish-English descent; son of Martin and Mary (Meredith) HAWK, his father was a farmer; paternal grandfather John HAWK, paternal grandmother Rosana (Roller) HAWK, maternal grandfather Joseph MEREDITH, maternal grandmother Susan (Murphy) Meredith; he was in early life a salesman in dry good store; married S. E. AKARD Sept. 1, 1869, member of Masonic Lodge, Holston Institute of Sullivan Co., Tenn.; Democrat was formerly Justice of Peace and chairman County Court of Sullivan Co.; was chairman of the executive committee of Independent Democrats of Sullivan Co. 1910; was First Lieutenant Co. G., 19th Tennessee Regiment, C. S. A.; served four years and was wounded at Shiloh at Chickamauga and at Franklin; member of Southern Methodist church.
