GUTHRIE, Walker D., merchant; born Albany, Ky., Dec. 27, 1876; Scotch-Irish descent; son of William S. and Mary (Pierce) GUTHRIE; father’s occupation, minister of the gospel; educated at Albany (Ky.) High School and Overton Co. (Tenn.) Academy; in early life was a farmer, later taught school in Arkansas for two years and in Texas two years; was for one year bookkeeper and secretary of the Poynter-Spencer Mercantile Co., Inc., Texas; returned to Livingston, Tenn., and entered the mercantile business; married Amy M. SPECK Aug. 10, 1902; member I. O. O. F. and W. O. W.; Republican; member of Baptist church.
