GODDARD, James Andrew, real estate and insurance dealer; born near Rockford, Tenn., March 30, 1849; German and Irish descent; son of William and Margaret K. (Hitch) GODDARD; father’s occupation, farmer, teacher; paternal grandparents Joseph and Elizabeth (Jordan) GODDARD; maternal grandparents Elias and Nancy (Kerrick) HITCH; graduated from Maryville (Tenn.) College, A.B., June, 1871; in early life he taught school, and was superintendent of public instruction for Blount Co., Tenn.; married twice, first Mary C. BOWLES, Sept. 26, 1871, second Mrs. E.E. DIAMOND, Oct. 13, 1906; Republican; former trustee for Blount Co., Tenn., eight years; member of M.E. church; was a delegate to General M.E. Conference at Los Angeles, Cal., in 1906; stockholder and vice-president of the Bank of Maryville, and was assistant cashier of some twenty years prior to Jan. 1, 1909.
