GALLOWAY, R., coal operator; born London, Eng., November 6, 1843; son of R. and Mary (Whittington) GALLOWAY; Scotch descent; educated St. Louis and Keokuk, Iowa; married twice, 1865 and 1908; member Masonic order; 1864 clerk on Memphis boats; 1865 clerk M. & C. Railway; in 1879 he was elected one of eight commissioners for the taxing district of Memphis and served two and one-half years; 1866 to 1910 transfer business Memphis, and he is now President Galloway Coal Company, Patterson Transfer Company, Chairman Board Directors Choctaw Coal & Mining Company, Chairman Memphis Park Commission; his father was a pioneer in the Northwest and outfitted part of the Army 1847 and the Mormons en route to Salt Lake from Nauvoo, Ill.
