EDGERTON, John Emmett, educator; born near Kenly, N. C., Oct. 2, 1879; English descent; son of  Gabriel and Harriet (Copeland) EDGERTON; educated public schools of North Carolina and Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tenn., graduating from latter B.A., 1902, and M. A., 1903; married Harriet Figuers  Dec. 15, 1909; member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and is a Master Mason; Democrat (Independent); is Honarary Colonel by enactment of Tennessee Legislature, making Columbia Military Academy a post of the national guards; was Captain of the Vanderbilt football team 1901; was also president of Literary Society, editor of the College Annual, president Y. M. C. A. and B. U. at Vanderbilt 1902; formerlytaught school at Lebanon and Memphis; is co-principal of Columbia, Tenn., Military Academy; member of Methodist Episcopal church, South.
