DOWNING, Richard Vaughan, farmer; born near Covington, Tenn., May 29, 1874; Scotch-Irish descent; son of Elijah McMahon and Elizabeth Anne (Vaughan) DOWNING; educated common schools of Tipton Co., Tenn., graduated Dickson, Tenn., with degree of B.S. in 1895; in early life was a merchant, later took up farming; married Annie Mary MCBRIDE Feb. 3, 1908; member I. O. O. F.; Democrat (Independent); has been member of the County Court since Sept. 1901; interested in real estate; has been affiliated with the firms McBride, Downing & Co., and Downing & Vaughan, and McBride Mercantile Co., Covington Tenn.; member of the Methodist church.
