BRODE, Frederick William, cotton seed products dealer; born Delitseh, Prussia, Germany, Aug. 14, 1843; son of John Frederick and Fredericka (Ritter) BRODE; father, merchant; German descent; educated in the schools of Prussia, Germany, and public and private schools of St. Louis, Mo.; began his career as a clerk, and then bookkeeper; came to America in 1853, moved to Memphis, 1859, and began business in 1868, later became member of the firm of Brode, McIntyre & Co., then under firm name of F.W. Brode & Co., 1875, to date, dealer in cotton seed products; former director in Home Fire Insurance Co., of Memphis, Tenn., and vice-president and director of Merchants Exchange of Memphis, and president in 1898; married Dora B. SIMMONS, daughter of Zion S. SIMMONS, July 8, 1875; member F. & A. M., Memphis Lodge No. 118, trustee of same; member of Veteran Masons’ Lodge, Tennessee Club, Country Club, Business Men’s Club, all of Memphis, Tenn.
