child, he had the Star Route which went thru Fancy and Palmersville
Highway area. He would take me with him and I loved stopping at those
old stores. They always had a great dog laying on the porch and a
pot bellied stove inside with men sitting around it or a small table, playing
checkers. Daddy would sit me on the counter or the cold drink box
and everyone make over me. I felt like a princess. Daddy would
stop along the route and visit and brought people things like their medicine
from town. In return, Daddy would come home, every day in the summer,
with bushels of peas, corn, peaches, you name it. I hated that part
because who want to shell lima beans, yuck. We would stop on the
route to pick damsons (plums) off the side of the road or stop when we
saw a fox and Daddy would make them stand on their hind legs and look at
us by whistling.......Ann
