Civil War Record of Ferdinand N. TUCK

1830 - 1905

Ferdinand N. Tuck was born in Halifax County in Virginia on September 16, 1830.  He moved to Weakley County Tennessee 1842-1845. He was married to Elizabeth L. (HILL) September 16, 1858 by Samuel Steel, Justice of the Peace, in Weakley County. 

Ferdinand saw service in the Civil War fighting for the UNION ARMY.  He enlisted as a private in Company E, 15th Kentucky Calvary in 1862. He had a one-year commitment and was discharged.  On November 25, 1863 he re-enlisted in Union City, TN and joined M Company 2nd Illinois Calvary.  His highest rank was Corporal.

On December 15, 1864 he fell off a horse while serving in the 2nd Illinois Cavalry.  The accident occurred while traveling through Alabama with his Division.  He was serving as a Scout.  He was placed in a wagon and attended to by the Regimental Surgeon.  In February 1865, he had Rheumatism and was put in the hospital in Baton Rouge, LA.  He was sick with said disease until he was mustered out of the service on May 27, 1865.  After his discharge, Ferdinand was a sick man.  He was disabled by chronic diarrhea, piles, rheumatism, and was badly ruptured on the right side.  On June 21, 1887, Ferdinand filed a pension claim.  He was granted a pension of $50.00 a month until his death on May 30, 1905.  Ferdinand died of PARALYSIS due to Army disabilities.

Ferdinand N. was 5 feet 7 inches, dark complexion, hazel eyes and had dark hair.  He was a Farmer most of his life; however, he was listed as a wheelwright on the 1870 census ? after he got out of the Army. After Ferdinand�s death Elizabeth filed for FN�s  pension on 7/1/1905.  Elizabeth could not write, the claim was witnessed by G.A. Perry and E. D. Glisson.  She received the $50.00 per month until her death on June 22, 1927.  She died in her son�s house, Morton A. Tuck.  Cause of death was Mitral Regurgatition.  She became disabled starting on 4/1/1927.  Her Doctor was G.T. Biggs.  Both F.N. and Elizabeth were buried at Wesley Chapel Cemetery.
