 John Albert Miles (12 Apr 1868 - 17 Oct 1941) was the son of Thomas Washington Miles & Martha Rebecca Woodson Guthrie.  He was married to Virginia "Jenny" Frances Drummond and they were the parents of Mattie Miles Templeton, Lottie Miles (who taught for many years at the Tennessee School for the Deaf in Knoxville, TN), J. T. Miles (who was a long time educator in Weakley and surrounding counties), & Mildred Miles Trevathan.  In addition to teaching in the public schools of Weakley County for 22 years, J. A. Miles was also a Baptist minister.


J. T. Miles, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Albert Miles, was born and reared in Weakley County.  He attended school at Public Wells, Martin Grammar School, Union High School, Hall-Moody, Union University, and U. T. Junior College.  He had ten years experience as principal and teacher -- two years principal of grammar schools, four years principal of Mt. Pelia High School, four years as principal, teacher & basketball coach of Stella-Ruth High School (1931 – 1935).  J. T. Miles resigned at Stella-Ruth High School to accept work at Martin Grammar School as principal & basketball coach (1935 – 1941).  He served as principal at Alamo High School 1941 - 1943; was superintendent of Weakley County Schools from 1943 – 1962; and served as principal of Dresden High School 1962 – 1965.  He was then City Superintendent of Paris City Schools in Henry County until he retired.
