Herbert Lamb letter
From The Fulton Daily Leader Fulton, Kentucky SOMEWHERE IN FRANCE October 3, 1918 Miss Ruth Roberts, Fulton, Ky. Dear niece: Received your letter some time ago, but just now got a chance to answer. Tell Vernie I was glad to get her letter and for her to write me again some time. I am in the trenches now, and it is a great place too. I have been in them for several days. It is a pretty noisy place sometimes too, but I have got used to it now. The big shells are whining over my head now. Guess you are going to school now. You must study and be ready to teach when I get back. You can write a better letter now than I can. I have got four letters from Ernest in the last week. He is well but he could not tell me where he was, nor I can’t tell him where I am. We are likely to see each other while over here. I sure wish I could see him, though. He said he had been to Paris five times. Said it was a fine place, and more girls there than he ever saw anywhere. I have traveled some since I came over here, but have not seen anything I thought very grand. Some parts of France are very pretty, and some are awful rough. None of it looks as well as home to me. I had rather see Fulton, Ky., any time than to see Paris, France. I haven’t heard from home in several days now and am getting anxious to hear. When I get a letter it is almost a month old, too. Write often, and don’t wait for me to write, for I have a poor chance. As ever, HERBERT Corp. Herbert E. Lamb, Co. B, 324th Infantry, U. S. A., P. O. No. 791. |
